Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Brooklyn Sports PT?

You’ll receive the same level of care as elite athletes—one-on-one treatment from a residency-trained, board-certified specialist with a doctorate degree in physical therapy. You’ll never be passed to an assistant or left to do exercises on your own. After the session, if you have any questions, you can call or email the PT directly and receive a prompt response.

What should I expect?

Evaluations and treatment are patient-focused from the latest in evidence-based medicine. You’ll have a dedicated professional to guide you through the entire rehabilitation and sport performance process to meet your goals.

What will the first visit be like?

We will review your medical and injury history, assess your current condition and complete a detailed physical exam. We will also perform a functional assessment and obtain baseline measurements. From there, we’ll discuss your goals for therapy and create a treatment plan.

What do I bring?

Bring an ID, copies of any imaging (x-rays, MRIs, etc), surgical or post-operative notes an protocols if applicable. Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes. If being seen for the upper extremity, wear a tank top or sports bra, and for the lower extremity, please wear loose-fitting shorts. There are changing rooms available.

What are the facilities like?

There are private treatment rooms for examinations and manual therapy, and an open gym area with equipment for therapeutic exercises.

Do I need a referral or prescription from my doctor?

New York State allows for direct access to physical therapists who have been licensed for over 3 years for 10 visits, or 30 calendar days, whichever comes first. Beyond that time, a prescription will be necessary.

How long do visits last?

45min - 1 hour

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the injury/condition and varies per patient and will be discussed following your initial evaluation. Most patients are seen 1-2xs/week, with post-operative patients seen more often and for longer.

Will it be painful?

The goal of physical therapy is to relieve pain, restore mobility and optimize movement and performance. Some aspects of rehabilitation and recovery can be difficult. Your therapist will communicate with you throughout the process to minimize discomfort.

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider. Following your visit, you will be provided with documentation to send to your insurance company for direct reimbursement.
